If your child is having difficulty with constipation,
we may be able to help.
Right now, doctors who specialize in pediatric gastroenterology are conducting a pediatric constipation research study testing the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug for constipation in children and adolescents. (The investigational drug is approved for the treatment of adults with constipation.)
If your child is constipated, he or she may be able to participate in this clinical research study.
Living with constipation can be a real pain.
Not only may constipation hurt physically, but sometimes it also may interfere with your child’s everyday life. When children are uncomfortable because they can’t "go," they may not spend as much time with their friends as they may want to. Also, they may find it hard to talk about constipation – even with their parents.
About This Clinical Research Study
Participation in this clinical research study lasts for up to 8 weeks. Everyone who participates receives the following at no cost:
-
The investigational drug for four weeks
-
Guidance and care from knowledgeable, supportive healthcare professionals who understand how constipation may affect your health and daily life
About the Investigational Drug
The investigational drug being researched in this study is called lubiprostone. Lubiprostone is FDA-approved (under the brand name Amitiza®) for the treatment of adults with chronic constipation. Researchers are now working to see if the investigational drug is safe and effective in providing relief from chronic constipation in children and adolescents.
